Pro Shottas have secured promotion to the Barbados Football Association’s Premier League and are now chasing the Division One title with two matches left.
The promotion was confirmed before Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Technique, which kept Pro Shottas at the top of the Division One standings.
Manager Paul Croney said the achievement was a reward for the team’s work since training began last November. “Oh man, it is a great feeling. The guys have been working really hard at it in training basically since November last year, so kudos to the entire team.”
Croney believed the major difference that season had been the team’s consistency in training, coupled with the acquisition of three key players.
“It’s not that we are not acknowledging the other team members but we had a group that made a huge contribution.
“Rommel Burgess came in to play at centre back and he’s a very experienced mature player. He has not only represented the national team but also has experience playing abroad. He’s been really working and doing a fantastic job with his colleagues as well,” Croney revealed.
Pro Shottas also strengthened their attack with the addition of Xavier Webster and Teondre Hinkson this season, with the pair now among the competition’s leading scorers. Hinkson has scored 13 goals, while Webster has netted 12.
With two rounds of matches remaining, Pro Shottas lead the Division One standings with 52 points, two ahead of Parish Land on 50.
Empire and Pinelands could also reach 50 points if they win their remaining matches, leaving the title race finely poised.
“Our very next game will be Barbados Soccer Academy, while the last one will be against Empire and my guys are ready to go out and hopefully conquer both teams,” said Croney. “We are not taking anything for granted because I know that Empire in particular are going to come hard as they did in the first round.”
Following the completion of the Division One competition, Pro Shottas will turn their attention to the Prime Minister’s Cup, which kicks off in September with a $100,000 first prize.
Croney said the team is hoping to improve on its 2025 performance in the competition.
“Last year did not go as well as we wanted to. We did not get out of the first round, but with the momentum the guys have now, I expect them to do very well,” he explained.
