For the first time in this modern Caribbean Broadcasting Union Media Awards era, the region’s big boys had to look up at Barbados.
This small island state emerged as the undisputed leader last night at the 37th CBU Media Awards in Georgetown, Guyana, collecting 15 awards and eight Special Mentions to edge perennial powerhouse Jamaica, which finished with 13 awards and four Special Mentions.
Trinidad and Tobago, another regional media powerhouse, recorded six awards and nine Special Mentions, while Belize collected five awards and four Special Mentions.
For the 246, the haul was spread across the industry, making the achievement even more significant.
The Barbados Government Information Service led the charge with seven awards and one Special Mention, while The Nation Publishing Company secured three awards and four Special Mentions. Capital Media HD 99.3, making its first appearance in the competition, immediately made its mark with three awards.
Starcom Network added two awards and a Special Mention, while Plan A Productions and the National Transformation Initiative each earned Special Mentions on their first outings.
