Court to hear from complainant in wounding case

Next month, the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates Court is expected to hear from a complainant who was wounded  by her brother with a cutlass.

Shane McDonald Carter, 33, of Tudor Land, Back Ivy, pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Katrina Carter on August 17.

Prosecutor Sergeant Victoria Leacock told the court that the siblings and the accused’s girlfriend live together. The complainant came home from work and was about to wash clothes when her brother’s girlfriend put clothes in the machine.

Later, the two women argued. The accused came home, slapped his sister, then pulled a cutlass from his pants and swung it at her. She raised her left hand and was injured. She reported the incident to police and was treated by a private doctor for a cut on her thumb and palm, as well as a soft tissue injury to her face.

The accused man admitted to the offence and told police he had anger issues and was sorry.

Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick released him on $2 500 bail with surety and warned him to stay away from his sister. The case was adjourned until September 9 for the complainant to appear.
