Defending champions South Africa headline a list of 16 teams, set to contest the second edition of the IMC Over 40’s World Cup in Guyana from October 17 to 31.
A total of 72 matches will be played across the 15 matchdays, with West Indies scheduled to field two teams.
Tournament Director and Chairman of the Cricket West Indies Masters Association Raj Singh said the final preparations are progressing smoothly.
“Lots of things are already in place and all the countries have confirmed. Masters cricket is a self-funded arrangement, whereby all teams pay their fees.
“There are registration fees to be paid by each country, everybody pays their own airfare, hotel accommodation and things of that nature, but the host country would normally look to provide as many things as possible through sponsorship,” he revealed.
According to Singh, Guyana President Irfan Ali has agreed to be the patron of the event and has also agreed to host both the opening and closing ceremonies, while assisting with security, transportation, emergency and medical services.
While the full teams have yet to be revealed, West Indies will be fielding a second team called Rest of the Caribbean.
“The first West Indies team includes Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dinesh Ramdin, Llendl Simmonds, Raayad Emrit and Jason Mohammed. We expect a really good performance from the team,” Singh revealed.
Organisers are also working with several regional broadcast entities to ensure fans can view the games. (KH)
