After his heroics on Sunday night Mujeeb ur-Rahman jumped on a plane and left Barbados. The mystery spinner took three crucial wickets for Barbados Tridents to beat SLK by eight wickets at Kensington Oval on Sunday night. This earned him the Player of the Match award in the crucial Republic Bank Caribbean Premier league (CPL) match.
He left the next morning to represent Afghanistan in the upcoming series in India. His efforts provided the Tridents with a good platform to challenge for the playoffs as he is the leading wicket taker with 11 scalps at an average of 21, economy of 8 runs per over, and a strike rate of a wicket every 15 balls.
NATIONNEWS can confirm his replacement as Allah Ghanzafar, another right-arm mystery spinner from Afghanistan who bowls in the same style as Mujeeb. The 20-year-old Ghazanfar has previous CPL experience with Antigua and Barbuda Falcons last season. He has also played for several big teams in franchise cricket – Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, MI Emirates in the IL T20 in the United Arab Emirates and MI New York in Major League Cricket in the United States.
He will join the Tridents ahead of their next training session on Wednesday night evening at Kensington Oval under the floodlights. This will be part of the preparations for the next match in the competition against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Thursday at 7pm. (PS)
