Two Nigerian cousins have been fined and deported after admitting they entered Barbados on August 30 with falsified documents.
Kindness Janjindu Sampson, 20, of Aba, Nigeria, along with Ikye Wilfred Alphonsus, 19, of the same address, went before the District “B” Magistrates’ Court at the Eric Holder Jr Municipal Complex, St Joseph, where they pleaded guilty before Magistrate Keitha Ellis.
Prosecutor Constable Dereck Pitt told the court the two arrived from Lagos, Nigeria. They produced valid Nigerian passports which they handed to Immigration. They were referred to Customs for a search and while officers conducted it, they found a Ghanaian passport stashed in each man’s luggage.
Police then contacted the Ghana consulate in Trinidad and when the passport information was checked, it revealed that the travel documents had been falsified. Both men were arrested, taken into custody and interviewed.
They told the court that their uncle gave them the passports.
The cousins were fined $1 400 forthwith by Magistrate Ellis yesterday. It was paid and the youngsters handed over to Immigration. (SD)
