For the first time since the Women’s Caribbean Premier League began in 2022, the Barbados Tridents will not contest the final.
The Tridents’ hopes of defending their title were ended by the Guyana Amazon Warriors, who secured a seven-wicket victory in a rain-shortened qualifier at Kensington Oval on Wednesday.
Persistent rain delayed the start before the match was reduced to eight overs per side, putting both teams under pressure to make every delivery count.
Sent in to bat, Tridents managed 69 for four from their eight overs, but struggled to build momentum in the abbreviated contest.
Opener Qiana Joseph retired out at the end of the third over after scoring three runs from eight deliveries, while Kiran Navgire fell for a first-ball duck at the start of the fourth over.
One of the crucial moments of the match followed during over number six, when Tridents skipper Hayley Matthews was run out for 22, having faced 14 deliveries.
Maddy Green was left unbeaten on a top score of 30 from 16 balls, as Guyana’s bowlers did well to restrict their opponents in tricky conditions.
The Amazon Warriors were largely untroubled during their reply, after losing opener Eboni Brathwaite for two in the opening over.
Player-of-the-Match Tazmin Brits stroked an unbeaten 35 from 23 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes, while Shemaine Campbelle smashed 22 from 12 balls as the Amazon Warriors sealed the victory at 75 for three, with four balls remaining.

They will now face Trinbago Knight Riders, who they defeated during the group stage, during Thursday’s final.
Speaking to Barbados TODAY immediately after the game Chief Operations Officer of the Tridents franchise John Mumby said the reduced overs format made predicting strategy and a winner difficult.
“We were just saying off camera that limited overs (in a T20 game) is always a bit of a lottery. It makes the toss really big and to have lost the toss and then be put into bat on a wet pitch with a wet ball is tricky.
“I think we did pretty well [to set a 70-run victory target], but yeah, we came up just a little bit short,” Mumby stated.
A small but vocal group of supporters cheered the Tridents on throughout the game and Mumby thanked the fans.
“I think the nation has really gotten behind both the men’s and the women’s teams this year, with huge excitement in Barbados around the Tridents identity and the national colours.
“All through the game you heard ‘let’s go Tridents,’ which was amazing to hear from the school kids and I think that emphasises everything the franchise has tried to do this year.”
