After disregarding a caretaker’s warning not to enter a property, a 68-year-old man was fined when police said he had removed a mesh screen to climb through a window.
Alfred Augustus Maloney, of no fixed address, appeared in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court charged with loitering on Ainsley Brathwaite’s property on September 2, under suspicion of being about to commit burglary.
Sergeant Kenmore Phillips told the court that Brathwaite, the property’s caretaker, saw a man known to her enter the premises. The man, who was identified as Maloney, had been warned by both her and the police not to go onto the property.
When police were called, officers saw that Maloney had removed a mesh screen intending to climb through the window. He was arrested and charged.
He opted to say nothing in his defence.
Magistrate Manila Renee fined him $250 and ordered him to pay it within one day or face two days’ imprisonment.
