Dennis de Peiza has demitted the office of General Secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados after 24 years.
Yesterday it was announced in a press release that his departure had taken effect from Thursday. de Peiza did not seek reelection at the recently concluded 31st Biennial Delegates Conference of the Congress.
In his address to the Business Session of the Conference, he reminded delegates and observers of his journey within the organisation.
He said that with the establishment of CTUSAB in 1995, he was elected as the first treasurer, thereafter graduated to the office of Assistant General Secretary and then to General Secretary; the office in which he has served unchallenged for the past 24 years. de Peiza expressed gratitude to the member organisations of CTUSAB for having repeatedly restored their confidence, trust and faith in him to lead and manage the organisation. His parting advice to fellow trade union leaders, to recognise the value of teamwork within organisations.
He gave the assurance as a committed servant, who has worked tirelessly as a volunteer during his working life as a teacher, and even in the time of his retirement, of his continued commitment and support to the congress and to the cause of labour. ( PR)
