Pete Russell is set to step down from his role as Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Premier league following the end of the 2026 season. The organization made the bombshell announcement on Thursday morning, following the recent tournament which saw the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons win the final at Kensington Oval.
The news came via a media release, and no official reason was given for his departure. Russell’s departure from the CEO role marks a significant moment in the CPL’s development, as the tournament enters its next phase of growth, according to the statement.
Russell said: “I am incredibly proud of CPL’s growth and international standing, I believe its greatest achievement is in bringing fans back to cricket across the Caribbean and providing a platform for generations of young West Indian players to showcase their talent, express themselves on a global stage and pursue their cricketing dreams
While Russell is stepping back from his full-time position, he will remain with the organisation until a new CEO is appointed. He will also continue to support the CPL Board and leadership team during the transition. (PS)
