Two murder trials resume Thursday

The murder trials of Joel Philemon Maynard and Jason Ricardo Layne will continue in the High Court on Thursday.

Maynard, of Padmore Village, St Philip, is accused of murdering Kevin Atherley on September 26, 2019.

Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell is presiding over the case, which is being heard by a jury of seven women and five men in the No. 4 Supreme Court.

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale SC is prosecuting the case with acting Senior State Counsel Paul Prescod and State Counsel Tomeisha Sobers. Maynard is represented by attorney Sian Lange.

In the No. 3 Supreme Court,  a jury of ten women and two men will continue to hear evidence in Layne’s trial before Justice Carlisle Greaves.

He has pleaded not guilty to murdering his brother, Anthony Layne, on June 4, 2020, in their Leadvale, Christ Church neighbourhood.

The case is being prosecuted by Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney, Acting Senior State Counsel Anastacia McMeo-Boyce and State Counsel Kwame Ramsay.

Defence attorneys Lesley Cargill-Straker and Kristin Vanderpool represent the accused man.
