Commissioner of Police Sonia Boyce has been bestowed with the second highest National Honour, the Order of the Republic.
It was conferred this morning at State House by President of Barbados The Most Honourable Jeffrey Bostic.
“I’m lost for words, but let me say that I am deeply honoured and I remain humbled to be recognised as part of the Republic,”she remarked.
Boyce thanked God, the President and the people of Barbados, but said the honour also belonged to the men and women of the Barbados Police Service.
“I will remain focused,” she said.
Boyce, who will mark her 100th day as Commissioner on Sunday, said her first few months in the post had been challenging. Several murders occurred during her first days in office, including about three in September.
“And I’ve been able to look at the strategies that we have deployed previously, and I realise that they are working, but just with a little tweak. And I’m satisfied with what I hope to achieve within those first 100 days, because we know that as a female it will be marked heavily compared to the male. But so far, things are going well for me.”
“What I’ve been seeing and the feedback that I’m getting, I’m satisfied that I have started to achieve my goal,” she said.
Boyce pledged to continue serving the people of Barbados with integrity and with pride. (AM)
