BIBA, the Association for Global Business, is using Global Business Week 2026 to challenge the island to strengthen its competitiveness, embrace innovation and create a more efficient business environment as international business navigates changing tax rules, geopolitical uncertainty and rapid technological advances.
Now in its 17th consecutive year, the annual series of events runs under the theme “Resilience: Adapting, Transforming, Thriving”, bringing together industry professionals, policymakers, students and the wider public to explore the sector’s contribution to Barbados’ economy and its future prospects.
BIBA President Joanna Austin and Executive Director Carmel Haynes have emphasised that growth of the sector requires more than preserving existing advantages. The island must improve business facilitation while maintaining strong regulatory standards, developing talent and identifying new international opportunities.
The week’s programme includes a commencement service, a secondary schools symposium, a public discussion forum examining artificial intelligence’s impact on employment and skills, and a careers showcase at the Barbados Community College.
The cornerstone of the week is the Global Business Conference, taking place from October 22–23, at Wyndham Grand Barbados, Sam Lord’s Castle and virtually. Local and international speakers will examine global minimum tax reforms, preparations for Barbados’ next FATF evaluation, AI governance, capital markets, climate resilience, and more.
Through advocacy, public-private collaboration and support for more than 130 member companies, BIBA remains a champion of the industry that generates the second highest level of foreign exchange, tax revenue and skilled employment for the island while connecting Barbadians with opportunities in international commerce.
