Jamar Clarke recounted to the No. 3 Supreme Court that as he drove his wounded identical twin to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, his brother repeatedly told him that Red Dog had shot him.
Clarke was giving evidence in the trial of Taitt, of Silver Sands, who is accused of murdering Jamal on May 2, 2023.
The court heard that he and his brother had known Taitt, also known as Red Dog for 20 years, as they grew up in the neighbourhood together.
In 2023, Jamal lived with their father in Bournes Land, while he lived in Silver Sands with his girlfriend.
The witness recalled that his brother came to his house that morning and said he wanted to get ice from Oistins for the cooler, as they sold drinks.
They went to the Oistins fish market but couldn’t get any. He said this was around 7 a.m. They returned to Silver Sands and went to a minimart. Jamal left to go home for a rake while his brother waited for the shop to open. He stayed there for a while and made purchases.
He said: “Whilst I was coming out of the supermarket, a man by the name Rattle approach me on a bicycle and say that, ‘Your brother ‘cross the road, asking for help’. When he tell me that I give the contents I had in my hand to a man and ran and jumped in my car and drove ‘cross to Breedy’s Land by the abandoned house.
“When I got there, he was on the ground by the roadside, on his back, using his hands to push forward to get to me. A route taxi came and stopped, and two persons help me put Jamal in the back of my car, and I drove off. While I was driving, I ask ‘Who shot you?’ He said: Red Dog.”
Jamar drove home and asked his girlfriend to accompany them.
He continued: “While driving, I ask two more times, who shot you? All two times he said, Red Dog.”
He said that when they got to Oistins, his brother told him to go to the polyclinic, but when they arrived, they were told there were no doctors inside.
Jamar said: “I ran to Oistins Police Station and I ask for an escort and they gave me a number to call. I ain’t had no time for that so I ran back to the car and drove to the hospital,” he said, adding that his girlfriend and brother were talking as he drove and that Jamal was singing a Vybz Kartel song and, at one point, a Psalm.
“When I got by Purity, he tell her ‘Take care of my daughter and child mother and don’t let my brother get in any trouble’. I drove to A&E, and personnel came out with a gurney and took him inside.”
Clarke said that shortly after he gave his brother’s information to hospital personnel, a man took him into a room where a woman informed him that his twin brother had died.
He contacted their father and told him what had occurred, then returned to the scene at Silver Sands, where he saw police taking photographs.
Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney, acting Senior State Counsel Anastacia McMeo-Boyce and State Counsel Kwame Ramsay are prosecuting the case, while defence counsel Martie Garnes represents Taitt.
A 12-member jury is hearing the evidence before Justice Carlisle Greaves.
