A man who fell while being pursued by police after they allegedly saw a firearm in his possession will be sentenced in the gun court next month.
Jerimiah Selassie Bartlett of Fernihurst, Deacons Road, Black Rock, reappeared before Justice Douglas Frederick in the No. 2 Supreme Court on Friday to have the facts of his case read.
Bartlett had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a .40-calibre S&W SIG pistol and seven rounds of ammunition on January 3, 2026.
Principal State Counsel Rudolph Burnett told the court that officers from the Serious Organised Crime Unit were conducting investigations in the Deacons Farm area in St Michael, when they observed Bartlett holding a black firearm.
He looked towards the officers and ran, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, he tripped and fell before officers arrested him.
When asked to account for the firearm, which was found in close proximity to him, Bartlett denied any knowledge or ownership of it. He sustained injuries to both legs, two fingers on his right hand and his right elbow, which he said occurred when he fell.
Safiya Moore represents Bartlett, who is due to be sentenced on November 6.
