‘Peacemaker’ injured in student fight, ministry appeal for end to school violence

A fifth form student suffered serious head injuries and is being monitored at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Ministry of Education has disclosed.

In a statement, the ministry said the male student who was initially treated at a polyclinic had intervened in an apparent case of bullying that occurred in the Six Roads area after students had been dismissed early due to the negative impact of smoke emanating from a nearby location.

The police, principal and other school administrators went to the scene, where two male students were identified as the attackers.

The ministry said the principal, the Board of Management and police will continue investigations into the incident and make the appropriate decision regarding the fate of the two male students.

Although the school was not named, a separate statement from the Government Information Service stated that the Princess Margaret Secondary School in Six Roads, St Philip was closed due to smoke in the area.

The ministry has appealed for an end to the pockets of violence occurring in the school population. (BT/METVT)
