A partnership beyond financial health – COB Co-op Credit Union Ltd and ChemScreen Laboratory Services Inc. team up

Members of the City of Bridgetown Co-operative Credit Union Limited (COB) can now enjoy exclusive discounts at ChemScreen Laboratory Services Inc. (ChemScreen) — Barbados’ only private, internationally accredited medical laboratory which operates 365 days a year.

ChemScreen Laboratory, which offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic services, is now an official partner in COB’s growing discount programme.

With proof of membership – by showing a valid COB Mastercard – members can access special rates on a variety of services, reinforcing the Credit Union’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its members.

Encouraging members to take advantage of the initiative, COB’s Business Liaison Officer, Kizwauna Miller, said that while the partnership is now a formal one, the two entities have worked together before.

“Throughout the year, we worked with Chemscreen at various events and outdoor promotions where Chemscreen facilitated free blood screening and testing for attendees and staff. We are excited to now take it a step further with ChemScreen providing members with access to reliable, affordable health screening and diagnostics at a discounted rate.
“Our new partner offers diabetes and liver function tests, blood testing, cholesterol and kidney function checks, cancer, hormone, anaemia, vitamin levels and allergy screening among their services. Early detection can lead to preventative steps. If a member receives a positive diagnosis, the assistance of a medical professional can ensure proper management of some diseases and can help members make the necessary adjustments to their lifestyle,” Miller said.

This partnership is a continuation of efforts by COB to put physical health at the forefront of members’ minds. Last year, the COB LIFT Foundation, the credit union’s charity arm, sponsored the inaugural Diabetes and Hypertension Walk/Run 5K in collaboration with Diabetes & Hypertension Association of Barbados.

“We are aware of the pleas from various health officials and adjacent health organisations for Barbadians to get tested, ‘know your numbers,’ and we at COB will continue to assist our members in this regard,” Miller also noted.

ChemScreen Laboratory Services Inc.’s Dr Tricia Boyce is equally pleased about the agreement and is eager to working further with COB to help improve the health of its members.

“We are excited to offer this discount to the membership to enhance access and continuity of care. Being able to work at the events allowed us to interact with the members, hear their concerns, share information about the services we offer and more importantly, how screening and testing can benefit individuals, especially when it comes to NCDs. The response to our services was heartening and we look forward to strengthening our relationship during this year and in the coming years,” she said.

ChemScreen Lab has three convenient locations for clients to choose from. For more information about their service, members can give them a call at 228-9908 or visit their website www.chemscreenlab.com.
