Anglican chancellor Dixon passes on

The Anglican Community in Barbados as well as staff at the Central Bank of Barbados are mourning the sudden passing of Diocesan chancellor and Central Bank secretary Sadie Dixon

Bishop Michael Maxwell advised the Anglican community of Dixon’s passing in a letter yesterday, writing: “It is with immense shock and extreme sadness that I received this morning, the news of the sudden passing of our Diocesan chancellor last night.”

Maxwell noted that as “a woman of faith, Dixon gave much of her time and talent in God’s service for the building-up of His church.”

Describing the late chancellor as “jovial, kind-hearted, cordial, intelligent, conscientious, meticulous, action-oriented and industrious,” he said though Dixon had only been able to serve the diocese as chancellor for “a relatively short period”, which ended with her passing, her contribution was indelible.

“She enabled us to gain much headway in the ongoing process of reviewing our Diocesan Constitution, Canons and Regulations, through the hosting of frequent Regulations Committee meetings and was very instrumental in bringing to completion the development and approval of the diocese’s Code of Conduct.”

Dixon joined the Central Bank of Barbados on December 1, 2006, and worked as legal officer and legal counsel. She also served as bank secretary in an acting capacity on multiple occasions before being appointed to that position in 2023.

A legal practitioner with more than 28 years of experience, she was called to the Bars of Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and demonstrated expertise in financial, monetary, and banking matters, legislative drafting, civil law, and probate law and practice.

Dixon was the holder of an LLB (Hons) from the University of the West Indies, a certificate in legal education from Hugh Wooding Law School, a Master’s of law with distinction from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and a certificate in legislative drafting from the University of London’s Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.

Also grieving her passing are her father Dean Emeritus William Dixon and her siblings Cherri-Ann and Adrian.
