Ann Hill School marked its 43rd anniversary with a celebration that brought together students, staff, parents, and well-wishers. The occasion, which also saw the installation of eight prefects, was guided by the school’s theme for the year, Nothing is impossible with God.
Principal Emelda Bell, in addressing the gathering, reminded those present of the school’s achievements over the years.
Reflecting on the school’s mission, Bell said Ann Hill continues to build “a foundation of integrity, a love for learning, discipline, teamwork, and resilience among our students”, while encouraging them to pursue excellence and to develop values that will shape them into “well-rounded citizens of Barbados.”
The principal also expressed gratitude to teachers and parents for their ongoing support.
“Teachers, I applaud you for your dedication, for your hard work, your care, and your love for our students.
“Parents, continue to support them, challenge them, advocate for them, and help them to be the best versions of themselves,” Bell said.
Guest speaker, Reverend Kenroy Marshall, project accountant in the Ministry of Educational Transformation, urged the students and new prefects to “be the change” within their school.
He also reminded them that leadership begins with kindness.
“Even as a leader, all eyes are on me, so I want to ensure that I do what is right.
“You can be a champion of kindness. It doesn’t take anything off of anybody to be kind. If your friend doesn’t have a pencil or lunch and you have extra, share it. That is being kind,” Marshall said.
He also challenged the new prefects to use their influence positively.
“You are not only enforcers of the rules, but you are also a bridge between your teachers and your peers,” he said. “Don’t wait for the change to start, but you be the spark that starts the change.”
The ceremony ended in prayer and celebration, as students proudly pledged to uphold their school’s motto and to walk confidently in faith, knowing that indeed, nothing is impossible with God.
