Assistant coach of the Barbados Under-16 netball team, Lydia Bishop, believes the future is bright for the squad following their commendable second place finish at the just concluded Jean Pierre Netball Championships.
The ‘Baby Gems’ returned home over the weekend after finishing as runners-up behind Trinidad and Tobago for the second consecutive year.
Barbados won their first five games but lost their final match against the home side T&T 42-21.
Barbados led 9-8 after the first quarter, but trailed 19-14 at half time and 33-16 at the end of the third quarter.
In an interview with Barbados TODAY, Bishop said the team showed tremendous fight despite coming up just short.
“Well we went there to win and obviously we didn’t, but in each game we saw improvement in the girls. In the Trinidad game, I thought we played well but in parts. All in all, we saw the improvement and we know what we have to work on going forward,” she said.
Bishop outlined those areas, where she believes the team needs to improve.
“We need improvement in the shooting area and in the attacking area, the wing attack and the centre court.
“Moving forward we have to write our report first, because some of the girls are returning, so the coaches have to sit down and write our report and submit it to the Barbados Netball Association and then we will take the next steps from there,” Bishop said.
