Several Barbadian athletes advanced to the finals of their respective events on the opening day of the NACAC Under-18 and Under-23 Championships in Mexico.
Nyah Clarke got the team off to a strong start, winning the Under-18 Girls’ 100m heat in 11.91 seconds to comfortably advance to the final, where she clocked 11.69 seconds to finish sixth.
Kishawna Niles also advanced to the Under-23 Women’s final after clocking 11.59 seconds to finish third in heat number two, while Aniya Nurse clocked 11.74 seconds in heat number one and did not advance. Niles’ time of 11.41 seconds in the final then saw her finishing in sixth position.
Jahkye Brewster booked a spot in the Under-18 Boys’ 100m final, after crossing the line in 10.60 seconds in heat number one, before returning to be fourth in the final in 10.50 seconds.
Amari Knight did not advance following a 10.61 second clocking in the Under-23 heats.
Krystal Bentham pulled up in the Under-18 Girls’ 400m prelims, but Aidan Moore and Zacharry Wall both advanced in the Boys’ equivalent.
Moore won heat number three in 47.91 seconds, while Wall was second in heat two in 47.13 seconds.
Kadia Rock and Twaneise Johnson have both booked spots in the Under-23 400m final for women. Rock won heat two in 53.25 seconds, while Johnson was fifth in heat one in 53.91.
Shamari Greenidge-Lewis advanced despite finishing 4th in heat number four of the Under-23 Men’s race, in 47.44 seconds. Brandon Hinds was fifth in heat, 1 having clocked 48.21 and did not qualify for the next round.
