Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) president Paul Inniss says the business community is working to help reduce the cost of living for Barbadians.
Inniss, who said businesses were also facing significant price pressures, today emphasised the need for more innovation, efficiency and collaboration among businesses, Government and the public to address issues like import costs, energy prices and logistics.
He was speaking during a press conference at the BCCI’s headquarters at Braemar Court, Deighton Road, St Michael.
“The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry is ready and will keep doing its part to work with the various stakeholders, Government, non-government, private sector, [and the] business community towards practical and reasonable solutions as it relates to the costs of doing business, pricing and how we manage . . . the cost that is ultimately passed and that customers bear for goods and services in Barbados,” the senior business executive said.
“I think the more and more you think about it, the first marker has to be . . . really targeting and dealing with structural costs, because I would think that that’s the foundation in several respects outside of sourcing and the logistics around routing of goods.
“But in general terms, if you look at the structural cost of what it really costs us to do business and operate in Barbados, there’s a lot that we can do. There’s a lot that needs to be done, and the Chamber is ready to actually continue to roll up its sleeves and participate and contribute to meaningful work in that regard.” (SC)
