Beach soccer thrills: Sea Breeze, Thunder dominate opening matches

Sea Breeze and Tropical Thunder made early statements as the second weekend of the 2025 Barbados Beach Soccer Championship delivered seven action-packed matches at Browne’s Beach on Sunday.

In the opening encounter, Sea Breeze announced their intentions in emphatic style, securing a 3-0 victory over Wave Runner. Jabari Brandford led the charge with a brilliant brace, while Jamal Chandler added the third to seal a comfortable win.

As the 28 competing teams aim to reach the final and win the $10 000 grand prize, Tropical Thunder also lived up to their name with a storming 5-2 triumph over Southern Ray.

Khalique Bowen’s double set the tone, with Akel Inniss, Corian Skeete, and Jamar Grazette each adding to the scoreline. Despite goals from Nicholas Miller and Mario Sargeant, Southern Ray were simply outplayed by a more composed Thunder outfit.

In one of the most entertaining matches of the day, Island Invincibles edged Solar Strikers 5-4 in a nail-biting showdown. Rakeel Jackman proved unstoppable with a hat-trick, while Andre Thompson and Lashon Yarde added a goal apiece. Devon Tulloch and Deshawn Coppin each netted twice for Solar Strikers in a gallant but losing effort.

Fans were treated to a goal-fest when Tropical Twisters obliterated Sea Turtle Brave 14-0, marking the largest margin of victory so far in the tournament. Javon Alleyne led with a hat-trick, while Thierry Corbin, Paul Padmore, and Shaquille Gittens each grabbed two goals in a dominant display of finishing.

Another thrilling contest saw Bay Challengers edge Trident Tide 3-2. Evan Zeddes scored twice, and Ramon Boyce added the third, while Dario Bradshaw and Darren Best replied for Trident Tide.

The crowd roared in approval during the clash between Pelican Pirates and Island Wave, which went to extra time. The Pirates prevailed 3-2, with goals from Savion Hoyte, Shawn Jack, and Jeremy Blackman. Javonte Ward and Rashawn Waterman were on target for Island Wave.

Using the Slogan: Peace, Love and Harmony, the day concluded with a high-scoring thriller as Sunshine United narrowly defeated Bajan Spartans 6-5. Michael Clarke led with two goals, while teammates Deondre Ward, Kareen Springer, Torian Hinds, and Israel Rock all found the back of the net. Shavid Maynard’s incredible five-goal performance for Spartans was not enough to change the outcome.
