The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Small Craft Advisory for the island.
The advisory was triggered by expected windy conditions across Barbados and the surrounding marine area from Thursday night into Friday, July 11.
According to the BMS, winds ranging from 20 to 25 knots are currently affecting the island. These are expected to increase briefly to 30 knots on Friday, with stronger gusts likely during showers.
As a result, moderate sea swells between 1.5 to 2.5 metres in open water are expected, which could pose challenges for small vessel operations.
Marine users are advised to follow instructions from the relevant authorities and stay updated via the BMS, Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and Government Information Service (GIS) platforms.
The Small Craft Advisory went into effect at 1 p.m. today and is set to end at 6 p.m. on Friday, or earlier if conditions improve.
A gradual decrease in wind speeds is expected by Friday night. (BMS)
