Brathwaite denies stealing TVs from Courts

Kenneth Anderson Brathwaite was released on bail after he appeared in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on theft charges.

The 68-year-old of 3rd Avenue, Nurse Land, Tweedside Road, St Michael, pleaded not guilty to stealing a television valued at $599 from Unicomer, trading as Courts, on March 22.

He also denied stealing another television of similar value from the furniture and appliance store on March 21.

Objecting to bail, prosecutor Constable Ralph Rollock pointed to Brathwaite’s criminal record of 29 convictions, 27 of which fell under the Theft Act. His last conviction was in 2018, Rollock said, pointing to the need to protect the business community from the accused and the accused from himself.

Brathwaite, in his defence, said that he had celebrated his 68th birthday last weekend, was gainfully employed, owned his home and had a variety of medical ailments.

Magistrate Alison Burke granted him $2 000 bail and adjourned the matter until July 22.
