Car scam busted

Police have busted an international car racket involving more than 300 high-end cars stolen in the United Kingdom and smuggled into Barbados.

So far a team of specially assigned investigators has recovered 12 of the stolen vehicles and has locked on to at least three major players who they suspect are behind the transnational organised crime.

Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce said by early this week officers could be interviewing the suspects and he also warned some car owners –innocent or not – that their vehicles, once linked to the racket, would be confiscated.

“We are intent on recovering each and every one of those vehicles and that is an ongoing exercise,” Boyce said.

Based on their investigations, Boyce said information was pointing to people who are engaged in the sale of reconditioned/previously owned vehicles as the local masterminds and not the major reputable garages. (AC)
