Members of corporate Barbados are doing more to ensure students stay hydrated while also seeking to protect the environment.
Public relations and marketing executive with Hydrate Caribbean, Jay Belmar, gave that assessment as they partnered with Farmer’s Choice yesterday and donated their 28th Newport water station to St Mary’s Primary School in The City.
“We know that’s important to keep our children hydrated, not by drinking soft drinks but water,” she said.
Since the initiative began four years ago, 16 of the 28 stations have been donated to schools.
“This hydration station is more than just a water fountain. It is an investment in the health of our children. It is important to note that we are about to pass three million refills in Barbados. That means that three million single-use plastic bottles were not entering our landfills and polluting our landfills,” Belmar added.
Principal Grace Wickham thanked the organisations for their donation, which she said would be useful to the students.
Kitisheanna Williams, marketing coordinator at HIPAC, distributors of Farmer’s Choice, said: “At Farmer’s Choice, we try to do our part to be a part of the community and to give back. Because of the heat, we wanted to help the children stay hydrated, so when Hydrate Caribbean reached out, we said yes because we thought it would be a great initiative and we will work with them in the future.”
