Chief Medical Officer, The Most Honourable Dr Kenneth George, has apologised for the late opening of the David Thompson Health and Social Services complex.
It was reported earlier this week that close to 30 people, mostly elderly, were standing outside the St John polyclinic last Friday well beyond the 8:30 a.m. opening time.
Many complained that it had been opening late for several months.
Yesterday, George issued a statement through the Barbados Government Information Service
explaining that the late openings were due to “operational issues” but that the problem had been resolved.
“Chief Medical Officer, Dr The Most Honourable Kenneth George, has expressed his sincere apology to the public for the inconvenience caused by the late opening of the David Thompson Health and Social Services Complex during the week of August 18. The issue was reported in the NATION [on] Monday, August 25.
“Dr George confirmed that there were indeed some instances of late openings of the clinic during that week due to operational issues. However, these issues have since been resolved and the clinic is now operating within the expected hours as stipulated by the Government.”
“The [Chief Medical Officer] assures the public that the Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue to monitor the situation as they aim to provide the highest level of care possible for the citizens of St John.”
