Ajanni Cumberbatch had the best performance of her life as she bowled Barbados Women Under-19 to a huge win over Guyana Women Under 19 in the West Indies Rising Stars tournament on Saturday at Gilbert Park in Trinidad.
The spinner took six wickets for seven runs off five overs – two of the batters were bowled and the other four were caught. The Guyanese were bowled out for just 21 runs in 14 overs and this record low score gave the Bajans a massive victory by 98 runs after they batted first and made 119 off 25.1 overs.
Cumberbatch, 17, was well supported by captain Theanny Herbert-Mayers who bagged 3-2 off three overs.
Earlier the strongly-built Eboni Brathwaite topscored with a blazing knock of 48 off 39 balls which included four fours and two sixes. Brathwaite, a CARIFTA medal winner earlier this year, shared a brilliant partnership of 77 with Elecia Bowman, who made 20 off 28 balls.
Barbados were in deep trouble at 20-4 and this pair turned the innings around before another collapse saw the last five wickets go down for 18 runs as Guyana bowled their way back into the match.
Barbados will have their next match against Jamaica on Tuesday at the Frank Worrell Ground at the St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies. (PS)
