The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is mourning the sudden passing of Alvin Toppin, their recently ratified candidate for St Lucy.
Below is the full statement from the Democratic Labour Party:
The Democratic Labour Party mourns the passing of our colleague and Comrade, Alvin Toppin.
In January this year, Alvin was ratified as the Party’s candidate for St. Lucy. He was among the bright sparks within the Party and showed tremendous dedication to the role, with robust advocacy on behalf of the constituents of St. Lucy.
Most Barbadians will know Alvin as DJ Soca Superman, who mastered the airways at Starcom Network and kept parties pumping. The music and cultural fraternity across Barbados will be deeply saddened with the news of his passing.
Alvin showed great promise and commitment to every aspect of his life. After leaving daily radio, he took up a new career as an Executive in the insurance industry.
His intellect and his expertise will be missed across Barbados. We in the Democratic Labour Party will also miss his contributions at our General Council and Candidates’ meetings, along with his warm and friendly engagement.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. You are in our prayers as you come to terms with this tremendous and untimely loss.
Sleep well, Alvin. May you rest in peace and rise in glory.
