The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) officially launched its general election campaign on Saturday with an islandwide motorcade set to pass through all 30 constituencies, beginning from the party’s George Street headquarters in Bridgetown.
Media representative Sue Harris said the tour, which includes constituency stops, short candidate remarks and a series of scheduled breaks, marks the formal start of the party’s campaign activities.
“The motorcade today (Saturday) is going to start off from the George Street Auditorium here, and it’s going to touch all 30 constituencies across Barbados,” Harris said. “We’re going to have music speakers, and the candidates are going to speak as we get into each constituency. They’ll introduce themselves and talk a little bit to the public about what they’re going to be bringing to their particular constituencies.”
Harris said the route includes scheduled rest stops at Folkestone and Farley Hill, with a further stop planned at King George V Memorial Park before the group returns to George Street later in the day.
“This is the kickoff for the campaign,” she said.
After leaving George Street, the motorcade moved through central Bridgetown and made a stop in the City, where members of the public were given the opportunity to interact with party leader Ralph Thorne, City candidate Dale Rowe and other party officials.
Several bystanders paused to watch, wave and record videos as the convoy passed through the area.
Harris said party members have been energised since the election announcement, describing George Street as a “hive of activity” in recent days.
She also referenced Friday’s walk-through along Swan Street following the payment of candidate deposits, saying the public response had been encouraging.
