Neil Marshall, the Democrat Labour Party’s (DLP) candidate for St Philip South, secured his nomination this morning with what he described as “quiet confidence”.
Marshall and his team arrived at 11 a.m. and completed the nomination process presided over by Returning Officer Karan Callender and Election Clerk Jacquiline Trotman, about 55 minutes later.
In contrast to the incumbent Indar Weir, Marshall had no music or fanfare, insisting that the thousands of constituents in St Philip South wanted genuine representation and not to be distracted by the “razzmatazz”.
He added: “This is a serious exercise, serious business, and I don’t make light of it.”
Marshall, a resident of the constituency, who is contesting the seat for a second consecutive time, told Barbados TODAY he understood the experiences and concerns of constituents. Topping those concerns, he said, were the high cost of living, crime , and poor road infrastructure.
John Wayne Scantlebury of the Bajan Free Party and Omar Smith of Friends of Democracy are expected to be the last candidates to undertake the nomination process in St Philip South. (IMC)
