Eight Barbados scholarships and 14 exhibitions were awarded for the 2025 academic year.
The scholarship winners are Adara Nicholls, Aishwarya Ramchandani and Umsebe Simmons of Harrison College; Amareo Ifill of Queen’s College; and Matthew Alleyne, Maya Cummins, Nyela Marshall and Devari Springer-Lewis of the Barbados Community College.
The 2025 exhibition winners are Ceilidh Bain, Shane Bryan, Jessica Chow, Daniel Lashley, Adaiah Lescott, Mali Manning, Kristen Rogers and Jayden Thompson, all of Harrison College. From Queen’s College, the recipients are Luke Banfield, Jameka Beckles, Neil Charles, Gianni James, Kyle Johnson and Keira Watson.
From the Barbados Community College, Anazstazja Bartlett, Erin Douglas, Shamia Husbands, Lashay Mondesir and Kamra Moseley were also awarded exhibitions. Azara Husbands was the lone recipient from The St Michael School, while the Award of Excellence went to Gabriel Murray.
Last year, 15 scholarships and 20 exhibitions were awarded, while in 2023 there were seven scholarships and 25 exhibitions.
During the media conference at the Ministry of Educational Transformation’s Elsie Payne Complex on Friday, Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw announced preliminary analyses for this year’s CAPE and CSEC examinations.
For CAPE, 17 institutions were entered, including 11 sixth-form schools. A total of 4 699 students were registered, with 4 607 writing the exams.
Overall, 94.2 per cent of candidates achieved passing grades (Grades One to Five), with females recording a 95.3 per cent pass rate compared to 92.7 per cent for males.
At the CSEC level, there were 23 535 entries, comprising 10 288 males and 13 247 females. Of the 21 758 candidates who sat the exams, 67 per cent achieved passing grades. This included 12 per cent attaining Grade Ones, 24.3 per cent earning Grade Twos, and 31 per cent achieving Grade Threes.
