Emancipation Day celebrations were marred by the death of 70-year-old Arthur Barrow of Chapel Gap, St Barnabas, St Michael.
As Barbados celebrated freedom with drums and chants at the nearby Emancipation Statue, better known as the Bussa statue, Barrow’s friends and family were left in disbelief after discovering he had fallen from a more than 30-foot ackee tree and died on the spot.
His brother Wayne Barrow said Arthur was an active, healthy person who did odd jobs, adding Arthur fathered at least ten children who lived overseas.
A friend said she had been calling for him since early morning as they were supposed to sell ackees, only to eventually come across his body.
