The Ministry of Sports has officially launched the enhanced 246 Sports Platform, taking another step toward creating a central digital hub for sport in Barbados.
Championed by Sports Minister Charles Griffith, the initiative is aimed at modernising the administration, promotion and accessibility of sport through digital technology while creating greater opportunities for engagement across the sporting community.
Designed as a single, reliable source of sporting information, the platform brings together athletes, coaches, national sporting federations, clubs, officials and the public in one online space. Users can access competition calendars, fixtures, results, organisational information and updates on the achievements of Barbadian athletes and sporting organisations.
The platform was developed by Digital Shark Inc., led by Chief Executive Officer Rivelino Simmons, whose team designed, enhanced and continues to maintain the site to meet the evolving needs of Barbados’ sporting sector.
The Ministry’s Research Department, headed by Research Consultant Keedrea Roett, worked with national sporting federations and associations to collect and organise organisational information, competition calendars, fixtures and other data, which was then integrated into the platform.
The Ministry said it will continue collaborating with national sporting federations and associations to expand the platform’s content and functionality, with the goal of making it a comprehensive source of sporting information in Barbados.
National sporting federations, associations and sporting organisations are being encouraged to regularly submit updated fixtures, results, organisational information and news to ensure the platform remains current and continues to benefit athletes, administrators, supporters and the wider public.
