Fairchild Street Market among places being renamed

The Fairchild Street Market is among several public spaced to be renamed across Barbados.

The City market will be renamed the Nicey Belgrave Market Complex, in recognition of a pioneering Barbadian fruit vendor who operated in the alleys of Bridgetown, including Harrison Alley, adjacent to Fairchild Street. Her life and work exemplified the values of self-reliance, service to others, civic commitment, and community upliftment.

The public road leading to the Ragged Point Lighthouse will be renamed Sandra Mason Drive, in honour of the President of Barbados, The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason.

In addition, the Parkinson Resource Centre, at Regent Hill, Wildey, St Michael, will be known as the Delisle Bradshaw Resource Centre, in recognition of his legacy of leadership and community service.

The Friendship Sporting Complex will be known as the Louis Gerald Linton Sporting Complex, in honour of Louis Linton, for his significant contributions to community service, youth development, and sports leadership.

The St Philip Polyclinic, located at Six Roads, St Philip, will be called the Talcie E. Springer Polyclinic, in recognition of the outstanding contributions of the late nurse Talcie E. Springer to the public health system and the development of primary health care in Barbados.

The new Barbados Fire Service Headquarters and Bridgetown Fire Station will be named the Cadogan, Mayers, Marshall (CMM) Emergency Services Complex. (PR/SAT)
