The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Flash-Flood Watch for western districts.
Moderate to heavy showers have been developing just offshore along the island’s western coastline this afternoon, and forecasters warn some of this activity could move onshore before conditions ease later this evening.
Soil erosion on exposed or scarred land surfaces. Water settlements on roads and fields at the foot of hills and coastal roads. Adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds etc.). Delays on traffic routes with some roads becoming impassable in and out of minor
towns.
Authorities also cautioned that this alert could be elevated to red if conditions worsen.
The unsettled conditions are being influenced by light winds linked to Tropical Storm Gabrielle, located well north of the region. Combined with high daytime temperatures, these factors are fuelling localized afternoon convection, primarily affecting western districts.
This Flash Flood Watch was issued at 2:30 pm today and will be terminated at 6 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant. (BMS)
