Flood Watch extended for Barbados

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has extended the Flood Watch for Barbados.

The decision comes amid ongoing unstable weather conditions, including upper-level divergence and deep-layer moisture, which are producing mostly cloudy skies, scattered light to heavy showers, periods of rain, and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.

Rainfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches (25 to 50 mm) are expected throughout the day.

The BMS warns that there remains a medium possibility of significant flooding, especially in low-lying areas. This could lead to runoff from higher elevations, soil erosion on exposed or scarred land surfaces, water pooling on roads and fields at the foot of hills and along coastal roads, and traffic delays. Some roads may even become impassable. Residents and visitors are advised that the alert level could be elevated to red if conditions worsen.

Members of the public are urged to stay informed by monitoring the official websites and social media pages of the BMS, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and the Government Information Service (GIS), as well as local media outlets.

This Flood Watch was issued at 6:00 a.m. today and will be updated at 12 noon, or earlier if necessary. (BGIS)
