Forde parts ways with Bagatelle

Premier League football club Bagatelle will be on the hunt for a new head coach for the upcoming Prime Minister’s Cup Competition, after Norman Forde resigned from his position.

Forde, the former Barbados international star who oversaw Bagatelle’s promotion from Division One last season, told Barbados TODAY that the separation was amicable.

“Basically I think I took the team as far as I could carry them and at this point I am basically looking for something new.

“I’m trying to rest and recharge so that I can possibly look forward to maybe next year with another team for another challenge. I must say it was a privilege working with Bagatelle,” Forde explained.

While adamant that taking a break was the right choice, Forde maintained he has nothing but love for Bagatelle.

“Honestly I did not expect that the journey at Bagatelle would have gone so well, in terms of finishing second in Division One and being promoted to the Premiership during my first season, and then staying in the Premier League last season.

“So all I can say is that I really don’t have any bad memories there,” he said. “Like all families and all football clubs, we had our little trials or whatever, but there was never anything major that I would say that I should have quit Bagatelle because of those reasons. Nothing like that ever happened at all down there.”

The third edition of the Prime Minister’s Cup kicks off in just over a month’s time and Forde also shared his thoughts on potentially taking up a new coaching role during that competition.

“I’m traveling this weekend for a couple of weeks and as I said, I just want to rest and recharge, but I don’t know what the future holds.

“I don’t wanna say yes, but I don’t wanna say no. Right now I just want  to get some rest because believe it or not, last season took a lot out of me in terms of preparation and training, physically and mentally.”

Forde had his first coaching stint at his former club Youth Milan for several years. While Milan were eventually relegated under his tenure, he is especially proud of what he achieved with Bagatelle.

“This time around with Bagatelle, I guess I was more prepared and more knowledgeable so for me, I think that for me this is definitely a passing grade.

“Bagatelle is one of the smaller Premier League clubs and does not currently have the calibre of players as is the case at Wales and Paradise for example.

“What we did create was a group of players who were able to follow the game plan and had the right culture and discipline. I was very pleased about that.”
