Several public spaces across Barbados are set to bear new names honouring distinguished Barbadians who have made lasting contributions to the nation’s development. These include a market, road, polyclinic, resource centre, and fire service complex.
The new Fire Service Headquarters and Bridgetown Fire Station, unveiled last evening, was named the Cadogan, Mayers, Marshall (CMM) Emergency Services Complex.
Additionally, the Fairchild Street Market in St Michael will now be known as the Nicey Belgrave Market Complex, in tribute to the late pioneering fruit vendor who worked in the alleys of Bridgetown, including Harrison Alley near Fairchild Street. Belgrave was remembered for her self-reliance, service to others, and commitment to community upliftment.
The Friendship Sporting Complex will be renamed the Louis Gerald Linton Sporting Complex, in honour of Linton’s outstanding service to community development, youth empowerment, and sports leadership.
At Six Roads, the St Philip Polyclinic will be called the Talcie E. Springer Polyclinic, recognising the late nurse’s significant role in strengthening the island’s public health system and advancing primary health care.
Meanwhile, the public road leading to the Ragged Point Lighthouse will be renamed Sandra Mason Drive, in honour of the President of Barbados, Her Excellency The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason.
The Parkinson Resource Centre, located at Regent Hill, Wildey, St Michael, will now carry the name Delisle Bradshaw Resource Centre, in recognition of Mr Bradshaw’s legacy of leadership and service to his community.
Officials said the renaming of these public spaces reflects the government’s ongoing effort to honour citizens who have contributed significantly to national life through service, leadership, and dedication.
