Grand Kadooment start delayed

After consultation with various stakeholders, including the Barbados Meteorological Services, the start of the 2024 Flow Grand Kadooment was delayed to 11 a.m. Monday.

A message from Chief Executive Officer of the National Cultural Foundation, Carol Roberts, said the decision was made after consensus from the Barbados Association of Masqueraders, the parent ministry – Prime Minister’s Office Culture, the Commissioner of Police of the Barbados Police Service and the Met Office.

“At this time, I encourage all bands who have not yet made it to their band house and got their revellers and what not together to immediately do so; but I can also report quite happily that revellers are already on the road. Revellers have already begun to assemble at the official start point of the helipad in Bridgetown, and all systems are go,” Roberts said.

Some changes were made to the route of this year’s jump, including the start at the Helipad, down Princess Alice Highway and President Kennedy Drive to Eagle Hall, before the more familiar trek along Black Rock and the Frank Worrell Roundabout at the bottom of UWI hill onto the Mighty Grynner Highway.

Roberts encouraged spectators to come out, but warned them against encroaching on the bands.

“I also take this time to remind you that there is a penalty, a fine for those found guilty of breaking into the bands and encourage you to just line the route. Have a great time,” she said.
