Griffith advances to 200m semis

Barbadian sprinter Kuron Griffith booked his place in the men’s 200m semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, after placing second in Heat Three in 20.75 seconds on Wednesday.

Earlier Kelia Bentham clocked 23.96 in the women’s opening round of the 200m and did not advance, after finishing fifth in her heat.

Rasheeme Griffith was fifth in semi-final one of the 400m hurdles, with his time of 50.08 seconds not being enough to see him qualify for the final.

Adara Stoddard exited the women’s 200m breaststroke swimming competition after clocking 2:46.23 to finish fifth in her opening round heat, while Jaiya Simmons did not start her 200m butterfly heat.

Weightlifter Daniel Griffith was seventh in the final of the men’s 94kg event.

Defending women’s 400m champion Sada Willams begins her title defense on Thursday morning, at the semi-final stage.

Williams set the Commonwealth Games record of 49.90 seconds in Birmingham in 2022.

Kuron Griffith will also return to the track in the 200m semis. (KH)
