Bushy Park Circuit is set to host GT3 cars racing against each other for the first time this weekend, with 15 drivers from 15 countries expected to compete in the Fast Parts Caribbean GT Challenge de las Américas.
Drivers, their mechanical teams and organisers spent Thursday completing final preparations for the August 29-30 event, which is set to feature the largest group of top-spec cars to compete in a circuit racing series at the venue.
The event will bring together a diverse grid of drivers from Latin America, Canada, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, with racing machinery from globally recognised manufacturers such as Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche.
Facilities and Workshop Manager at Bushy Park Kurt Seabra said all trackside preparations had been completed, with drivers also participating in two practice sessions on Thursday.
“We still had a bit of infrastructure work going on on the outside, getting the VIP sections and the clubhouse ready, but outside of that, we’re ready to go.”
Seabra said the event would be a historic one for the circuit.
“It’s the first time we’ve had this sort of racing with GT3 cars competing against each other and we have 15 drivers from 15 different countries. We’re seeing quite a bit more interest in the event, because we had our product launch on Wednesday evening which had in excess of 700 people.
“Spectators were able to come and walk between the cars and see them being worked on and everything, it was a whole different experience than normal,” he added.
Seabra said circuit racing had experienced a lull at Bushy Park since the COVID-19 pandemic, but this weekend’s international event had already had a significant trickle-down effect.
“We’ve seen like 40 local entries as well, so just bringing these cars here has rejuvenated circuit racing already in Barbados and that bodes well for 2027,” he said.
With interest in the event high among motorsport fans, Seabra advised spectators to secure their tickets as early as possible.
“I would suggest they try to buy their tickets online rather than wait until they come to the gate.
“If Wednesday night was anything to go by, we had lines to get in the facility to come and see the cars for the launch.”
The GT Challenge de las Américas was founded in 2019 by Eduardo Aguilar with the aim of bringing together some of the best cars in Latin America in a single racing series.
