Gunman told: Bring money

A High Court Judge has warned a self-confessed gunman to come prepared to pay any fine in full.

“If a fine is considered, you have to bring all of my fine. So if the fine is $20 000 you have to bring all the money,” Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell told Shaquone Omar Waterman yesterday.

Waterman, of Odessa McClean Drive, My Lord’s Hill, St Michael, had just pleaded guilty, in the No. 4 Supreme Court, to having a .380 ACP-calibre Taurus semi-automatic pistol, as well as nine rounds of ammunition, on April 6, 2024.

He was represented by attorney Suthany Hall, who requested a pre-sentencing report.

Justice Smith-Bovell granted the request and allowed Waterman to remain on bail pending its completion. He will reappear in court on September 25. Senior State Counsel Paul

Prescod, who outlined the facts, said lawmen went to My Lord’s Hill, where they intercepted a Suzuki Swift. They saw when someone threw a dark coloured firearm into a grassy area. The vehicle was stopped and Waterman was the driver. There were three other people inside.

The four men were taken back to the area where the firearm was recovered and it was there that Waterman admitted the gun was his. The other three denied ownership.

When he was interviewed, he declined to dictate a statement. (HLE)
