Harrison College graduates urged to uphold legacy and chart their own path

The 2025 graduating class of Harrison College have been encouraged to honour the school’s proud tradition while boldly forging their own futures.

The cohort received their official send-off during a graduation ceremony held on Saturday evening at the institution’s Crumpton Street campus.

The event, staged under the theme “Our Story, Our Legacy,” featured addresses from school leaders and alumni, who praised the students’ achievements and urged them to remain grounded in service, excellence and compassion.

Principal Kayleene Kellman-Holder, in her address, reflected on the creativity and leadership shown by the prefect body, especially in efforts to build school spirit.

“The numerous ways in which members of the prefect body designed and devised various strategies to improve school spirit within the general populace, these actions all filled me with pride and admiration for the level of commitment shown by you, Class of 2025,” she said.

She praised the 132 students for overcoming the challenges of recent years, noting that the journey had been marked by resilience and success.

“Despite the challenges and the disappointment, we are here today because Class of 2025, you have prevailed. You have overcome adversity, and you have completed this journey.”

Addressing the students’ families, the principal advised them to continue providing the support that sustained their charges throughout the years.

She also encouraged graduates to continue acting with compassion and purpose.

Keynote speaker Dr David Johnson.

Delivering the keynote address, alumnus Dr David Johnson, a mental health advocate and healthcare professional, spoke about the importance of remaining grounded, whether through core beliefs, affirmations, or personal values.

He commended the students’ involvement in extracurricular activities and highlighted the values of empathy, ethical leadership and social responsibility they had developed during their time at Harrison College.

“My hope for you is that the strong relationships that you have built here will always be a safe place for you to land, a source of encouragement and the proverbial quadrangle that you can always return to,” Dr Johnson said, adding, “Even when you feel isolated and you are far away from home, you are never truly alone.”

He also paid tribute to the late Captain Geoffrey Wallace, a beloved teacher, remembered for his energy, positivity and lasting impact on the school community.

“A man whose smile and energy could change the entire mood of a room, a man who brought the hype to this school hall and to our lives,” he recalled. “He was not a doctor, not a politician, not a technocrat, but I think we can unanimously agree that he was a changemaker and the very fire and pulse of this community.”

Dr Johnson urged the graduating cohort to honour Wallace’s memory through their future actions. (STT)
