A man has died after a dispute between two men escalated into a fatal stabbing in Haynesville, St James, on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a police appeal for witnesses.
A person of interest is assisting investigators with the probe, police said.
Public Affairs and Communications Officer for the Barbados Police Service, acting Inspector Ryan Brathwaite, said officers responded to reports of the incident just before 3 p.m.
“Police operations control received a call at 2:50 p.m. today, the 19th of May 2026. That call was from an anonymous caller who stated that there was a stabbing at Haynesville, St James and a male appeared to be dead,” Inspector Brathwaite told reporters at the scene.
Police units and ambulance personnel were dispatched to the area, where emergency responders found the man unresponsive.
“A medical doctor was contacted. That doctor visited the scene, examined the body, and pronounced death,” he said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fatal stabbing stemmed from an altercation between two men.
“Our investigations have shown that there was a dispute involving two males, and as a result, one of those males received a stab wound and succumbed to injuries at the scene,” Insp Brathwaite said.
Police appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact the Holetown police station at 419-1700 or police emergency at 211.
