Heat is on

Get ready to face the heat.

That is the advice meteorological and climate experts have for Barbadians and other Caribbean nations as temperatures are expected to soar again this year.

Trisha Miller, a meteorologist with the Grenada Airports Authority’s Meteorological Service, said yesterday that the expectation is that heat stress in the region will be highest during the heat season’s peak in August and September.

Adrian Trotman, chief, applied meteorology and climatology at the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology, addressing the climate forum.

This, she warned, had negative implications for several sections of society, including people with chronic illnesses and schoolchildren. Key sectors like agriculture, tourism, health, water and energy were also under threat from the heat, Miller said.
