Hefty fines as police share traffic changes for Independence Parade on Sunday

Motorists are being warned to expect major traffic disruptions across Bridgetown on Sunday as police roll out extensive road closures and no-parking zones for the Independence Ceremonial Parade and President Installation Ceremony at Kensington Oval.
The restrictions will run from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and anyone who breaches the temporary rules or ignores police instructions faces a $500 fine or up to three months in prison, the Barbados Police Service said.
Road closures
The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic during the stated hours:

Fontabelle Road from Lakes Folly/Redman Drive to President Kennedy Drive/Holborn Circle
President Kennedy Drive from Westbury Road to Holborn Circle

(Public Service Vehicles are exempt from this section)
Expected delays
Traffic delays are expected along several parade routes, including: Fontabelle Road; Cheapside; Chapel Street; Prince Alfred Street; Broad Street; Trafalgar Street; Bridge Street; Charles Duncan O’Neal Bridge; Probyn Street; Bay Street; Lower Fairchild Street; Marhill Street; James Street; Magazine Lane; Coleridge Street; and Independence Square.

No parking
No parking will be allowed on: Westbury Road; President Kennedy Drive; Cheapside Road; Redman Drive; Prescod Boulevard; the road leading to Hanschell Inniss; Pickwick Gap; University Row; Mighty Grynner Highway; and Kensington New Road.Designated parking only
Parking has been allocated for specific groups, with shuttle service available from:

Kensington Oval – VVIPs
Parliament and Rickett Street – Parliamentarians
Cube Blue Barbados Port Inc – Award recipients
Government Headquarters – Honourees
Supreme Court and Helipad – Participants (parents and children)
State House – President’s guests (Toast to the Nation)
Government Procurement – Diplomats, Judiciary, emergency services
UWI Car Park – Invitees
Kensington Mall – Staff of designated persons

Police officers will be deployed along the parade route to assist with traffic management and ensure public safety.
