Italy-based linguist Dr Cristiano Furiassi published his book, Bajanyms: Toponymic Idioms in Barbadian English and Bajan, at the Barbados Museum.
The event was attended by members of the University of the West Indies, the Barbados Library Service and the Richard and Jeannette Allsopp Centre for Caribbean Lexicography.
Furiassi said the book contained four chapters, with the final chapter listing 41 idioms. He said the book examines place names and sayings in Barbados and Panama and their links to history, adding that Barbados’ language was unique and showed the resilience of its people.
