Jacob Mayers is provisional BKA Champion Driver

Jacob Mayers is champion-elect of the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship, which concluded with Sunday’s (October 6) Glassesco Race Day at Bushy Park Barbados. With a score of 601 points, he finishes the season 11 ahead of Calem Maloney, who clinched his third consecutive Easykart 125cc title with four race wins at the eighth and final round.

While Mayers won two races, he was beaten in the other two by Aeden Bruce, who was top scorer in the Easykart 100cc Juniors class for the first time this year. After dropped scores were applied, Mayers won the class by a margin of 20 from his cousin Zak, who missed Sunday’s final while away on holiday. Bruce finished third in class (454pts) and fifth overall.

The only Easykarts 60cc Cadet racer to have contested every round, Shamir Eversley is the 2024 class champion with 452 points, also sixth in the overall standings. Jordyn Hinkson brought his tally of race wins to 12 on Sunday to finish second with 361 points, with Jayden Brathwaite (249pts) third, with 11 wins from 16 races contested since June.

Fastest in qualifying, Maloney’s four 125cc wins on Sunday – his fifth clean sweep of the year – raised his total to 25. Raizer Stoute and Cody Mark finished second and third in the opening race, while Aaron Blackett and Stoute occupied those places in race two.

Stoute’s 14th podium of the year was to be his last. He suffered minor injuries in race three when he drifted across the grass into a barrier after slight contact while racing Mark, who went on to finish third again, this time behind Blackett. In the final race, Mark finished ahead of Blackett, who logged his 13th top three finish of the year to finish second in class to Maloney and fourth overall with 469 points; Cody (424pts) is third.

The 100cc Juniors and 60cc Cadets were merged for their four races, the first of the day run in damp conditions. Fastest in 100cc qualifying, Jacob Mayers risked racing on slick tyres while most were on wets and finished second to Bruce, with Oliver Judd third. By the second outing, the track had dried and Mayers claimed his first win of the day ahead of Bruce and Judd, a result repeated in race three.

In the day’s final encounter, Mayers briefly lost the lead to Bruce at the start, then got ahead again, only to lose the advantage when they came up to lap one of the Cadets, passing either side of the 60cc kart, Bruce retaking the lead. Shortly after, there was contact, causing Mayers to spin off; he rejoined to finish third behind Bruce and Judd.

BKA Chairman Barry Mayers, himself a former champion, said: “Congratulations to our three class champions, all of whom join with the rest of the BKA family in wishing Raizer well for a rapid recovery.

“It has been a very competitive season and we have watched many of our younger karters grow in ability and confidence during the year. So a big thank-you to Sectus Technologies for their continued sponsorship, which allows us to develop and nurture these talents. We have some special plans for our final date at Bushy Park in November, so watch the media for details in the coming weeks.” (PR)
